AHMI 2011

For the past 2 years I have been involved with the Nonprofit Management Student Association (NMSA) at BYU.  A few years ago NMSA decided to affiliate with American Humanics (AH).  AH is an organization that certifies students who meet certain competencies regarding the nonprofit sector.  Every January AH holds a management institute where students can come to learn new things about the sector and network with students and professionals in the sector.  Last year the conference was in Phoenix (which was slightly lame) but this year the conference was held in ORLANDO!!!  We even got to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel.  I was able to go and spend time there from January 2-6.  I was able to meet lots of interesting people and have a lot of fun all at the same time.

Posted below are some pictures from the whole adventures.  You may look at these and think that all I did was vacation but I did go to lots of classes too.  I just didn't take any pictures of that stuff.

AH managed to get Universal Studios to sponsor the conference and give each of us a free pass to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.
I flew in on Sunday night but the conference didn't start until Monday evening so Kenneth, Becca, and I decided to use our passes to go to Islands of Adventure on Monday.

I especially loved Harry Potter Land.
I'm not that crazy of a Harry Potter fan but it sure was fun to see how they had done the whole thing.
It was insanely crowded so we didn't get to go inside Hogwarts but I was fine with that.

At the conference we ate a lot of fancy meals.  At every nice meal they had dessert and it was always some sort of mousse.  It was alright but I'm a bit confused about why they thought it was so amazing.  It sure does look pretty though.

At the end of the first fancy dinner they sure got the party started with some group karaoke of I Got A Feeling.  As you can tell it was quite a good time.

Just prior to the following picture being taken our whole group was in the process of migrating to the front of the dance floor when I overheard this girl say, "Wow! That groups looks like they are having so much fun.  I bet they've got some crazy parties at their school."  I had to laugh because there is some fun stuff going on at BYU but I'm sure it is totally different than she might be thinking.

This is Kenneth and his fan club from the Dakotas.  They invited him to go for drinks but he declined.

Just behind our hotel there was a fantastic Boardwalk.  This was the first funnel cake I have ever eaten. Delicious but definitely not nutritious.

Just off the boardwalk there is a boat that will take you around to other parts of the resort.  We got on board and just rode around for a while.  The evening turned into the Disney sing-a-long.  I think that the boat staff really enjoyed being serenaded.

This is a beautiful evening view from the Boardwalk.

One of the nights we decided to go out and eat to Bahama Breeze.  It's a nice restaurant with a Jamaican ambiance to it.  I really enjoyed all of the food.  The company was pretty great too.

This picture documents when we let our true selves out.

This is the whole group all together in one picture.
