Internship Introduction

Since several people have been asking I've decided to write a post on what I will be doing during my 3 month adventure to Africa.  Let me start from the beginning... A few years ago I saw this internship available through the Kennedy Center for International Studies where the interns would be working for LDS Employment Services.  I thought it sounded very interesting so I went into the study abroad office to inquire.  At the time the interns traveling around the world would be teaching the Career Development Workshop.  It sounded very interesting but it just wasn't for me at the time.  I have kept the idea in the back of my mind for a while.  Earlier this fall I was looking into internship opportunities and I ran across this same internship again.  I went to an information meeting and found out that the program focus has changed to having interns teach the Small Business Development Workshop.  Ever since getting involved in the nonprofit sector I've loved the concept of entrepreneurship being the solution to poverty.  I went home that very afternoon to begin my internship application.  There was one kink in the process when a letter of recommendation got lost but other than that it all went quiet smoothly.

A few interviews later I received a phone call from the program facilitator informing me that I had been given the opportunity to work as an intern in Accra, Ghana.  yay!!!!!

Today was my first day of training.  I learned so much and it made me even more excited for my internship.  I am a little nervous for tomorrow when we have to practice teaching in front of our amazing teachers but I'm sure that it will go well.

Let me know if you have any questions about my internship and I will answer them.
